The Start of My Journey

May 2007

As I start this journey let’s back track a little with my own history of this challenging project.

I first hear of the Dear Jane Quilt back in 1998, when my sister expressed her love and her own journey with me. I looked at it then (from the point of a new quilter) – um NO WAY. Though reading through various online journals and seeing other pictures of this incredible project did leave a longing in my heart.

Early last year (2007), around mid-February, I discovered another group within my live journal communities that were starting their own paths. So, I decided to join them this time in the process.

I purchased the book and the EQ software (which I SOO LOVE) and started collecting FQ of civil war prints.

Then last May (2007), I finally-officially jumped on the wagon and sewed my first block. . .only to redo it in a different color due to the fact I decided to recolor my Dear Jane with a more traditional TATW (trip around the world) coloring.

So, I’m officially on my way. This week I have done 9 blocks and 2 triangles and even purchased more background fabric.

I’m going to backdate a few days worth of progress with pictures and stats.

When I did finally say yes to this project, I fully intended to keep it very period feeling and knowing I would take 3-5 years to complete this quilt.

My journey has begun.

A year later reviews.  I took a few months off, well, more than a few.  But again I discovered another community that was doing Dear Jane blocks, with tutorials!  This recent discoverery and visual aid has assisted me to restart my own dj journey.

Also, have been reconnected with my sister, who was the one who started this madness years (almost a decade) ago.

So at this point having 24 blocks done, 1 triangle is pretty good.  I still feel on a good track to my goal of 3-5 years completetion date :)
